El Arte de Cartier
November 4, 2012
The house of Cartier in Paris, has decamped to Madrid for the ´El Arte de Cartier’ exhibition at the amazing Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum.Cartier has opened the archives for the show, with a treasure trove of exceptional pieces from illustrious owners like the Duchess of Windsor’s panther brooch, the ruby and diamond necklace given to Elizabeth Taylor by Mike Todd, and a tiara belonging to Princess Grace of Monaco, that rub shoulders with Art Deco pieces from the 1920s made in collaboration with Jeanne Toussaint, kindly lent by the Royal families of Spain and Monaco. The retrospective was put together by Jorge Valera, and is based on a visual path around the Cartier pieces and the Museum’s own works of art, putting the close links between the Spanish crown and the French jewelry house firmly into the spotlight.
